Aircon Gas Top-Up Singapore — R32 & R410A

Low refrigerant is one of the most common reasons a Singapore aircon stops cooling properly. We pressure-test before topping up to confirm there's no leak — topping up a leaking system just delays the problem. Both R32 and R410A are stocked on the van for same-visit top-ups.

Low refrigerant is one of the most common reasons a Singapore aircon stops cooling properly. We pressure-test before topping up to confirm there's no leak — topping up a leaking system just delays the problem. Both R32 and R410A are stocked on the van for same-visit top-ups.

How to tell your aircon needs a gas top-up

Refrigerant gas is the working fluid of every aircon. When the charge drops below the manufacturer-specified weight, the symptoms are recognisable:

  • Warm air after a long run — the unit can’t reach setpoint even after 30+ minutes
  • Ice on the copper pipe outside (the smaller of the two pipes)
  • Compressor short-cycling — switching off and on every few minutes
  • Higher electricity bills for the same cooling result

These same symptoms can also point to a dirty filter, a failing capacitor, or a fan motor problem. That’s why we pressure-test before quoting a top-up — the gauge tells us in five minutes whether refrigerant is actually the issue.

Why “topping up a leaking system” is a trap

The refrigerant circuit in a healthy aircon is sealed. If it loses charge, there’s a leak somewhere — usually a tiny copper-joint pinhole or a corroded valve.

Topping up without finding the leak feels cheaper today (S$80 vs a S$200 leak repair), but the system loses gas again in 4–8 weeks. Within a year you’ve spent more on top-ups than the leak repair would have cost.

We always tell you honestly when a leak repair is the right call. Sometimes it’s not economical (older units with multiple corroded joints), and we’ll say that too.

R32 vs R410A — what’s in your unit

If your aircon was installed before 2018, it’s almost certainly R410A. Newer systems (2018+) use R32, which has roughly one-third the global warming potential and runs slightly more efficiently.

The two gases are not interchangeable. The system pressure ratings, the compressor oil compatibility, and the metering devices are different. Charging R32 into an R410A system (or vice versa) damages the compressor.

The refrigerant type is printed on the outdoor condenser nameplate. We check it as part of the pressure test.

What's Included

  • Pressure leak test before any top-up
  • R32 and R410A in stock on the van
  • Charging by weight (not by pressure alone)
  • Cold-air verification at supply outlet
  • Warning if a full re-charge is more economical
  • 90-day warranty on the workmanship

How We Do It

1

Confirm The Symptom

Warm air, ice on copper pipe, or system running constantly without cooling. WhatsApp us a description.

2

Pressure Test

On arrival, we check pressures and visually inspect copper joints. If pressures are normal, top-up is not the right fix.

3

Charge By Weight

If a top-up is needed, we charge the recommended quantity by weight using a digital scale — never by pressure alone.

4

Verify Cold Air

Cold-air supply temperature measured at the outlet. Photo report on request.

Why Coolbest For This Job

Leak Test Before Top-Up

Topping up a leaking system buys you 2–4 weeks before you're warm again. We pressure-test first and tell you honestly if a leak repair is needed.

Charged By Weight

Refrigerant charge is specified by weight in grams, not by gauge pressure. We use a digital scale every time.

Both Refrigerants Stocked

R32 and R410A on the van. No second visit, no waiting for stock.

Gas Top-Up FAQ

How do I know if my aircon needs a gas top-up? +
Common signs: ice on the copper pipe outside, the system running constantly without cooling, warm air after the unit has run for 30+ minutes, or the compressor short-cycling. We pressure-test to confirm before topping up.
Which refrigerants do you handle? +
R32 and R410A — the two used in virtually all Singapore residential aircons. R32 is the newer, more efficient gas used in 2018+ units. R410A is found in earlier inverter systems.
How often do I need a gas top-up? +
A properly installed and sealed aircon should never need a top-up. If yours does within 2–3 years, there's a leak somewhere — top-up alone is not the fix.
What's the difference between R32 and R410A? +
R32 has lower global warming potential, runs at higher pressure, and is more energy-efficient. R410A is older and slightly cheaper but being phased out for new installs. The two are not interchangeable — your unit is designed for one or the other.
Can I just refill an aircon that has totally lost gas? +
Yes, but the system must be vacuumed and pressure-tested first to find the leak. Charging an empty system without finding the leak almost always fails within weeks.
Is R32 more expensive to top up than R410A? +
R32 itself is cheaper per kg, but R410A top-ups are quoted higher because the gas is harder to source and the older systems often need more thorough leak testing.
