Aircon Repair & Troubleshooting Singapore

Most Singapore aircon faults fall into a handful of patterns: clogged drain, dirty coils, low refrigerant, failing capacitor, or a leaking copper joint. Coolbest carries the common spares on the van so the majority of repairs are completed in a single visit. We diagnose first and quote in writing before any part is changed.

The five most common Singapore aircon faults

After 18 years in the field, we’ve learned that almost every Singapore aircon repair call falls into one of five patterns:

  1. Clogged drain pipe → water dripping from the indoor unit
  2. Dirty coils or filter → poor cooling, longer runtime
  3. Low refrigerant → warm air, ice on the copper pipe
  4. Failing capacitor → outdoor unit not starting, buzzing
  5. Leaking copper joint → repeating low-gas symptoms even after top-up

Knowing the patterns means we diagnose fast. The diagnostic kit — multimeter, pressure gauge, drain probe — fits in a service bag and travels on every repair call. Most diagnoses take 15–30 minutes; the repair itself follows immediately if the part is on the van.

Why “diagnose first, quote second” matters

The single biggest complaint we hear about other aircon contractors in Singapore is the bait-and-switch: a low call-out fee balloons into a full system overhaul once the technician is on-site, with no way to verify the work was needed.

We do it the opposite way. The diagnosis is the priced product. The quote that follows is itemised — part name, labour, total — before any screwdriver moves. If you say no, you pay the diagnosis fee (S$80) and we leave. If you say yes, that fee is waived and rolled into the repair total.

When repair is the wrong answer

If your unit is 12+ years old and the compressor or fan motor has failed, the repair price often approaches the cost of a new system. We say so honestly. A new entry-level Daikin or Mitsubishi 9,000 BTU unit installs from around S$1,100 — if the repair quote is S$700+, replacement usually makes more sense over a five-year horizon.

Coolbest also handles installations, so we can quote the replacement on the same visit if you want a side-by-side comparison.

What's Included

  • On-site diagnosis with multimeter and pressure gauge
  • Written quote before any part is replaced
  • Common spares carried on the van — drain pumps, capacitors, contactors
  • Refrigerant top-up only after a leak test
  • 90-day warranty on the workmanship and the part
  • Diagnosis fee waived if you proceed with the repair

How We Do It

1

Describe The Symptom

WhatsApp us the brand, age, and what's wrong (warm air, water dripping, smell, noise). A photo helps.

2

On-Site Diagnosis

Technician arrives with diagnostic gear and the common spares. Pressure gauge, multimeter, and visual inspection.

3

Written Quote

We confirm the fault and the price for the fix. No work begins until you say yes.

4

Repair & Verify

Part replaced or system serviced. Cold-air check, drain test, and a 90-day warranty card before we leave.

Why Coolbest For This Job

Diagnose First, Quote Second

We never replace parts speculatively. The diagnosis tells us what's wrong; the quote tells you what it costs.

Common Spares On The Van

Drain pumps, capacitors, contactors, R32 cylinders. Roughly 80% of repair jobs finish on the first visit.

Honest About When To Replace

If the unit is past economical repair (typically 12+ years and a major part failing), we'll say so.

Aircon Repair FAQ

Why is my aircon blowing warm air? +
The most common causes are low refrigerant, a dirty filter or evaporator coil, or a failing capacitor. We diagnose all three on the first visit before quoting any fix.
Why is water leaking from my aircon? +
Usually a clogged drain pipe or a tilted fan coil. We clear the drain, re-level the unit, and run a 30-minute condensate test to confirm the fix.
Why is my aircon making noise? +
Buzzing usually points to the outdoor compressor or a loose mounting. Rattling is typically the indoor blower or a bent fan blade. We diagnose, then quote.
Why does my aircon smell? +
Almost always biofilm in the drain pan or coils. A chemical wash usually solves it — we'll only quote a repair if the smell points to a different fault (e.g. leaking refrigerant, burnt motor).
How much does an aircon repair cost? +
Diagnosis is from S$80, waived if you proceed. The repair itself depends on the part — drain clearing from S$80, capacitor replacement from S$120, fan motor replacement from S$220, gas top-up from S$80.
How long do repairs take? +
Most single-fault repairs (drain, capacitor, gas top-up) finish in under 90 minutes. Compressor or fan-motor replacements take 2–3 hours.
