The five most common Singapore aircon faults

After 18 years in the field, we’ve learned that almost every Singapore aircon repair call falls into one of five patterns:

1. Clogged drain pipe → water dripping from the indoor unit
2. Dirty coils or filter → poor cooling, longer runtime
3. Low refrigerant → warm air, ice on the copper pipe
4. Failing capacitor → outdoor unit not starting, buzzing
5. Leaking copper joint → repeating low-gas symptoms even after top-up

Knowing the patterns means we diagnose fast. The diagnostic kit — multimeter, pressure gauge, drain probe — fits in a service bag and travels on every repair call. Most diagnoses take 15–30 minutes; the repair itself follows immediately if the part is on the van.

Why “diagnose first, quote second” matters

The single biggest complaint we hear about other aircon contractors in Singapore is the bait-and-switch: a low call-out fee balloons into a full system overhaul once the technician is on-site, with no way to verify the work was needed.

We do it the opposite way. The diagnosis is the priced product. The quote that follows is itemised — part name, labour, total — before any screwdriver moves. If you say no, you pay the diagnosis fee (S$80) and we leave. If you say yes, that fee is waived and rolled into the repair total.

When repair is the wrong answer

If your unit is 12+ years old and the compressor or fan motor has failed, the repair price often approaches the cost of a new system. We say so honestly. A new entry-level Daikin or Mitsubishi 9,000 BTU unit installs from around S$1,100 — if the repair quote is S$700+, replacement usually makes more sense over a five-year horizon.
